How to start a basic skin care regimen
Skin care is so so important. I see so many people getting so excited about makeup and fashion stuff, and totally neglect skin care. Most people do not even remove makeup properly. Washing your face once ow twice with water does not remove your makeup. There is still so much product left on your face. That causes clogged pores and acne. Skin care always comes first. It is so confusing these days to find a perfect skin care routine for yourself, there are so many types of products and brands available in the market. In this blog I will be sharing how you can determine the simple skin care regimen that might work for you and also what are the basic and important skin care products to get you started on your skin care journey.
Determine your skin type
When you look for a skin care regimen. The first step is always to determine your skin type. Skin types basically lie in five categories, Dry, normal, combination, oily, sensitive. but 3 major categories are Oily, Combination and dry. If you notice that your skin always has a slight oily residue, or it starts to show oiliness fairly quick after you wash your face, and your face gets shinny in all areas, you have oily skin. If you notice that the T-zone of your face is oily and rest of your face is normal to dry you have combination skin. And if your skin seems to need a lot of moisturization in order to look healthy, you have dry skin. Determining your skin type is very very important. It is the first step to start any skin care procedure as I mentioned, once you have got that figured, the next thing is,
It is so important to use products that are targeted towards your age. If you use products which are too advanced and harsh for your skin. It will not help you out in anyway, and later as you get older those strong products will not work for you. And if you use really really mild products, you are not gonna see any results. Both ways you are just wasting your time, money and energy. Make sure you try out stuff that is targeted towards you age. Don’t be hesitant to ask the salesperson for guidance or if you are totally clueless then to take guidance from a professional. Or just read the labels on the products. Take your time or do whatever works for you.
Travel size or Sample size
Good skin care products can be pretty darn expensive, never ever spend your money directly on full-size products. If they do not work out for you. They are a waste. Always buy travel size products or if you are unable to find them, ask for sample size to try it out. Give it a week or two, and see if they work for you or not. Once you are sure what works for you, buy a full size product, and if it doesn’t search for another one.
Most Important Skin care products
When you are new to skin care, it is obviously confusing to figure out from where to start. Do not start doing everything at once. While having a skin care regimen is great, your skin is not used to of too many products if you don’t use them already. So start with, Cleanser, Moisturizer, Sunblock, and Exfoliator.
A cleanser, if you have oily skin avoid milk cleansers, they are very rich and moisturizing, and often they leave a residue and if you have dry skin avoid foaming cleansers, because they strip off the natural oils of your face. People with combination skin can get away with both of those, depending on what suits them. You should wash your face minimum twice a day, in the morning and in the night. To make sure your skin it clean. And you take off all the environmental gunk and excess oil from your face and let your pores breath.
Moisturizing your skin is so so important. Whether you have oily, dry or combination skin. Make sure you moisturize you skin and keep it hydrated. It will make your skin stay youthful for longer and it will make it look healthy and glowing.
Sunblock, ahh! How neglected is that. I am so guilty of that. I never cared about using a sunblock and even sometimes now I end up forgetting about it. So the way I like to do it, I try and use products with SPF in them. Like a moisturizer or a foundation, I try incorporating sunblock that way, so even if I forget using an actual sunblock I actually have a protecting layer on my skin, because Lord knows once the sun starts shinning bright, I am not coming inside.
Our skin is made up in layers. It takes 28 days for our skin to shed the outer layer. To help your skin stay smoother and get rid of any dry and dead patches on your skin, it is very important to exfoliate your skin. You can use really really mild exfoliators if you have sensitive skin. But don’t leave the exfoliation out. It basically is a mild scrubbing of your face. It makes your skin even, reduces the appearance of acne scars, makes your skin look healthy and glowing and deep cleans the pores. You can also make mild exfoliators at home, using ingredients from your kitchen, I have shared some on my blog in old blog posts. It is super simple and easy and you should at least exfoliate your skin twice a week.
If you follow these tips properly, you can definitely determine a good skin care regimen for you.
